Due to the weather conditions and forecast we have taken the decision to close The Waggon @ 7.30pm this evening – Wednesday 28th February. We will be taking orders for food up until this time.

Full Time Shift Manager Required @ The Waggon, Oxspring

Due to the fact that we have an extremely low staff turnover … an exciting, rare opportunity has arisen at The Waggon and Horses, Oxspring for a FULL TIME SHIFT MANAGER.

The Waggon is an extremely successful pub/restaurant and has been so with its current owners for 19 years. It specialises in having a warm friendly atmosphere, excellent service and quality food all cooked by our in house chefs from fresh. This reputation is not down to one individual but our fantastic team and we are looking for an individual to help maintain this reputation. We also hold specials nights and events in Rafters Function Room.

The role of  shift manager is one which will involve a variety of responsibilities from front of house/customer service, man management, stock control, cash handling and recording, adhering to relevant government and in house policies and generally managing the business in the absence of the owners. Some experience is required for this position although training specific to the business will be given. Other qualities which the ideal candidate will require is a friendly/ personable approach, the ability to work on their own initiative with a can do attitude and be an active member within the team.

Well the Race Night was held last Friday to raise money for World Challenge Ecuador 2019. Where a group of students will be travelling to Ecuador to live with the locals in their community and provide help in whatever way necessary  to enrich their quality of life. We are delighted to say that a huge £884 was raised and a great night was had by all in doing so. Thank you to everyone who attended, bought tickets, gave donations and supported on the night buying raffle tickets and betting on the races… Much appreciated!!! 🙂


We are very proud to announce that we are rated #5 of 280 restaurants within Barnsley on TripAdvisor.  This is amazing news for the whole team here and to celebrate we are going to hold a raffle  for the next 3 month whereby the prize is a Sunday lunch for 4.  To be included in this raffle all you have to do is write a review of your visit/s to The Waggon and Horses, Oxspring on TripAdvisor.  Your TripAdvisor name that I can see will then be entered into the raffle.

On the 22nd of each month of the people who have reviewed us that month then a winner will be chosen at random and notified by e-mail via TripAdvisor. 1st raffle draw will be on 23rd July.

Sorry Everyone.  Yes it’s time for the ‘C’ word  …. CHRISTMAS!!!

Woohoo!!! Christmas menus for The Waggon and Horses, Oxspring are now completed… yes I know it’s early I can hear the groans from here 😉  but we already have Christmas Day Lunch fully booked and even have a waiting list and with many more enquiries and bookings being made we just had to bite the bullet and get on with things. These menus will be available from the printers and on our website within the next few weeks … SO WATCH THIS SPACE!! However if you would like to book in in the meantime for December then please do call on 01226 763259 to reserve your table whereby I can then send you a menu.

Being early we have once again been able to secure an appointment with Santa to visit us here in The Waggon for Santa Sunday Lunches on Sunday 3rd, 10th and 17th December.  Sittings will be either 12 to 12.30pm or 2.30 to 3pm on each of the Sundays stated. On these sittings you will enjoy a Festive Sunday lunch of Soup to start, Traditional Roast Turkey Breast or Wortley Farmed Lamb with all the trimmings followed by your choice of a homemade dessert on the day. Obviously your tables will be festively decorated as you would expect complete with Christmas crackers.  Once you have finished your meals then Santa will make an appearance and each child (and adult if you wish ;)) will be invited to go and have a chat with Santa and  each child will recieve an early Christmas gift from Santa himself.  This is a lovely day for all the family and we have already received bookings so we urge you to reserve your place so as not to miss out. Why wait in a freezing cold shopping or garden centre to see Santa when you can have a day including Santa  for all the family to enjoy and be involved in!?! The cost of this is £16.95per adult with children under 10 £9.95pp or £6.95 per child who would like to choose from our childrens menu.

This year we will once again be holding our Festive Friday Party Nights in Rafters Bar @ The Waggon on Friday 1st, 8th and 15th December.  Doors will open at 7.30pm. This is a fantastic evening for those of you who want to celebrate the festive Season with friends, family, colleagues etc but are not wanting a sit down meal. On these evenings you can come to Rafters which will be festively decorated and enjoy a fantastic night out with our resident DJ. Our infamous Homemade Meat and Potato Pie supper will be served during the evening. Enjoy all the old school classics  and festive hits.  This is a ticket only event and is  £12.50pp. FOR EVERY BOOKING OF TEN PEOPLE OR MORE THEN THE ORGANISER WILL GO FREE!!

Following past years popularity we will also be holding our Christmas Bingo Lunches in Rafters @ The Waggon on Wednesday 6th and 13th December.   This is a Christmas get together with a twist! Enjoy a 3 course meal of Soup to start, Traditional Turkey Breast with all the trimmings followed by Sherry Trifle. Proceedings start at 12pm and once you have enjoyed your meal then there will be bingo games for cash prizes.  This is a ticket only event and is £14.95pp. FOR EVERY BOOKING OF TEN PEOPLE OR MORE THEN THE ORGANISER WILL GO FREE!!

All dietary requirements can be catered for just let us know at the time of booking.

Hello there all you lovely people!

Well what an amazing day it was for Oxspring, Penistone and all the other local villages and indeed Yorkshire on Sunday for The Tour de Yorkshire! The village and surrounding areas looked amazing and there was a fantastic community spirt which was evident down here @ The Waggon, Oxspring amongst the hundreds of people who came to visit us and view the cyclists go past.

From everyone here at team Waggon, Oxspring we would like to say a massive thank all of you to all who came and supported not just the event but us here @ The Waggon.  You were all truly fantastic and we hope you enjoyed the day and any food that you purchased.  The hog roast was extremely popular and was a sell out and to say that it served around 400 people that is definitely saying something. Many of you took advantage of our new patio seating area which I am sure is going to also prove extremely popular in the coming summer months.

So that’s all for now folks!! Except to say we look forward to seeing you again sometime on the near future!


A Charity Race Night in aid of The Tiny Hearts Appeal, Barnsley was held on Saturday 11th March in Rafters bar and was a sell out!

The Tiny Hearts Appeal @ Barnsley Hospital aims to raise £1 million to help fund a brand new special Baby Care unit at the hospital.

The new unit aims to provide an even better standard of care for all the special care babies and the most comfortable environment for all families and staff on the unit.

WOW!!! What a fantastic night was had by all. Lots of fun and hilarity whilst raising lots of money for the Tiny Hearts, Barnsley Appeal. A MASSIVE THANKYOU to all who contributed by either sponsoring a race, buying horse, buying a ticket for the event and/or betting on the actual evening.  Stuart of R N Promotions who came and provided the actual races said that he has done over 100 race nights and never before had he seen such an amount raised.  Especially the Auction race which in itself raised £455. As is the norm the owner of the winning horse received half of this amount with half been given to the charity however in this case the syndicate who bought the horse generously donated their winnings back to Tiny Hearts!!! THANK YOU!!!
