WAGGON REOPENING – SOME USEFUL FAQ’s


Well here we eventually are … We are delighted to be able to reopen and welcome back all our lovely customers back to The W&H. As we are commited to keeping both customers and staff safe we are making some changes to ensure we follow the government guidelines. For your reassurance we have some FAQ’s below to show you how hard we have worked as a team and done all we can to ensure we operate in an environment you can be confident to dine in.

Q1. DO WE HAVE TO BOOK?

To ensure we comply with social distancing we have taken away several tables which means we will not be able to have as many guests dine with us as usual. There is however the option to dine in our beer garden where tables are spaced at a minimum 2m apart. We strongly recommend that you do book as to enter the pub there has to be a table available. We are also staggering booking times so customers of other parties do not arrive together. However we will always do our best to find you a table if you decide you want to visit us at short notice and in this instance then you would wait in our reception gazebo (at a safe distance) and press the bell on the door for attention should a member of staff not be there. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE PUB WAIT FOR A MEMBER OF STAFF TO GREET YOU

Q2. WHO CAN WE COME WITH?

We are following the government guideline that state : Indoor gatherings are limited to members of any 2 households (or support bubbles), while outdoor gatherings are limited to members of any 2 households (or support bubbles), or a group of at most 6 people from any number of households.

Q3, WHAT TIME WILL THE W&H OPEN?

We will now be open 7 days and our kitchen will be open Monday to Saturday 11am to 9pm  and Sunday 12pm to 6pm. This allows guest to choose to come at quieter times should they so wish.

Q4. WHAT CAN WE EXPECT WHEN WE FIRST COME TO THE W&H?

When you arrive at the Waggon you will find we have erected a gazebo which will operate as our reception area. If you have prebooked then a member of staff will be there to greet you. Should you not have booked or a member of staff is not there then we ask if you could press the bell at the side of the door for attention. PLEASE DO NOT ENTER THE PUB. From there a member of staff will come to  meet you and take you to your table which is yours for your time with us. Don’t worry once you enter the reception area it will all become apparent as we have a white board with our guidelines.

Q4. WILL TAKEAWAY STILL BE AVAILABLE?

Our takeaway service will be available Monday to Saturday 11am to 8pm and Sunday 12pm to 6pm. It has proved a huge success during lockdown and we appreciate all of you who have supported us be it ordering from us, sharing our social media posts and generally passing on the word. THANK YOU!!

Q5. WHAT DO WE DO IF YOU WANT TO SIT IN THE BEER GARDEN FOR A DRINK OR FOOD?

Weather permitting then we will be serving food and drinks table service within the beer garden. When you arrive @ The W&H simply go and choose a table that is free. Sit down and you will find the instructions on the table. These will be to call the pub with your drinks order which will then be delivered to your table.  You can also dine outside and again this will be all table service.

Q6. HOW DO WE ORDER?

For any of you who have dined with us before there is really no change here as we have always operated with full table service from when you sit down to when you leave. This will continue the only change is that should you have wanted to go to the bar for any reason in the past then now you just ask your waiter/ess for your drinks and also your bill which will then be brought to you at the table. You will have menus which are laminated and sanitised after each use. So for those of you who know us well your experience may be slightly different on arrival but once you are seated you will receive the same excellent dining experience you are used to.

Q7. WILL THERE BE THE USUAL W&H MENU?

Our menu will  be slightly reduced to begin with, but will have all the Waggon Favourites and Grill menu with steaks etc.  The reason for this is because as you will know all our food is made from raw ingredients; we don’t buy prepared or frozen food. Our ethos is to provide you with home cooked, excellent quality food using local suppliers and as our chefs have just come back from furlough we have a mammoth task of producing everything for all our dishes. However we will have our special’s board featuring 4 a la carte specials which will be updated on our website and Facebook Page weekly.

Q8. HOW ARE TRHE SOCIAL DISTANCING RULES BEING MET?

The current guidance is 2m or 1m with mitigating factors. Mitigating factors include all guests using hand sanitiser in our entrance gazebo before being invited into the pub. You will also find hand sanitisers on all tables for your use while dining with us. There is a sanitising station with gloves and wipes for you to use when going to the toilets. Increase in staff hygiene re more frequent hand washing and sanitising. All tables and chairs will be sanitised after each customer has left. Staff will observe social distancing at all times where possible. There are times when social distancing will be difficult such as when serving food. We will try to ensure only one staff member looks after your table and serve from a sideways stance when placing plates on your table.

Q9. HOW WILL THE MEASURES PUT IN PLACE KEEP ME SAFE?

We have always kept the W&H spotlessly clean and currently have a 5* hygiene rating but we have put many extra cleaning steps in place. For example staff will sanitise their hands before and after serving any food or drinks. Trays, telephone and card machine will be wiped after each use. Surfaces around the pub will be wiped frequently with a minimum of 70% alcohol which kills viruses. We will bring cutlery to your table once you have ordered and we will provide single use condiments.  We always follow exceptionally high standards in our kitchen. Our food is sourced mainly from local suppliers who we trust and have used for many years. Every step of food processing from the delivery to it arriving at your table has been review to ensure safe practices are being followed.

Q10. HAVE STAFF BEEN TRAINED?

We have produced a detailed risk assessment to all staff which explains how they must work to keep everyone safe. We have also undertook 2 days training from an external trainer on cleaning principles and infection control. We will be working in smaller teams to try to reduce the number of people they have contact with. Staff will also ensure when they are at work they act socially responsible and adhere to current guidelines. Please rest assured we take training very seriously and all staff will be extra vigilant with regard to hygiene

Q11. WILL YOU STILL BE HAVING YOUR OFFERS OF STEAK NIGHT ON A MONDAY, 2 CAN DINE FOR £16.99, FISH AND CHIP FRIDAY?

Yes all these offers and special nights will continue as before Lockdown.  Please see our website for further information on these offers and keep an eye out for special nights

TO END … I know all this sounds quite scary when we see words like ‘guidelines, regulations’ rules’ etc but honestly it really isn’t. We have done the hard work in following these to ensure your safety … you will not be doing anything more than I am sure you are already doing such as sanitising and washing hands more frequently, social distancing where possible and just being socially responsible, we have thought of implemented everything else to keep you and our staff safe … many of which you will not even notice as it will be going on behind the scenes… SEE YOU SOON!! xxx
